A real discovery!
While strolling through the neighborhood, we stumbled completely by chance upon the studio-boutique of Valentine_Huyghues_Despointes_illustration. We pushed open the door… and wow. A visual feast. Her world is incredible, and her skill even more so.
Valentine is a master of marquetry and leatherwork . Her inspirations? The plant world and underwater landscapes. The result: vegetables (including an incredible artichoke), mushrooms, seaweed, fish… a whole colorful, poetic, and utterly fascinating menagerie. And even a few comic book characters that make an appearance in the design.
Each piece issheathed , cut with ultra-fine precision, and assembled with a level of accuracy that commands respect. Nothing is left to chance; everything is meticulously planned down to the smallest detail.
Absolutely fantastic: a fishing game with magnetic pieces. Magical. Impossible not to feel like a kid again.
And then there was that perfect phrase, uttered quite naturally by Valentine's little girl, who was in the shop: "Mom is an artist." Truth truly does come from the mouths of babes.
